Andalusia creates a WhatsApp to report cases of children's abuse

The Andalusian Ministry of Equality, Social Policies and Conciliation has set up a WhatsApp telephone number for notifications of possible abuse of children and adolescents.

An effective means against child abuse

An effective and immediate communication channel is set up in Andalusia aimed at providing minors and adolescents with an easy means of communication that allows them not only to send and receive images, but also screenshots, videos, audios, etc. Another benefit is the ability for children and young people to seek help without the potential abusers knowing.

A confidential number: 689 96 75 01

The telephone number for communications via WhatsApp is 689 96 75 01, available 24 hours a day. This new channel guarantees the identification of the contact person, ensuring confidentiality.

Through this number, communications are tracked. As far as telephone contacts are concerned, the regional ministry has other telephone lines dedicated to children and adolescents. These lines, to which the Andalusian telecare service also responds, offer free information 24 hours a day, every day of the week, and also channel possible situations of abuse affecting minors in Andalusia, in order to offer them immediate attention. .

A WhatsApp but other telephone numbers already exist

To facilitate the communication of possible cases of child abuse, in addition to the WhatsApp channel which is now operational, the telephone number 900 851 818 is already in place. This line makes it possible to report these situations to the competent services, guaranteeing the anonymity of the call if desired.

On the other hand, the telephone number 900 921 111 is available to obtain information on the resources, programs and actions of the care and protection system for children and adolescents.

The 116 111 telephone number, which operates throughout the European Union, also provides support for children in need of care and protection, facilitating the provision of services and resources to meet their needs and giving them the opportunity to voice their concerns.

In total, from January to October 2021, 4,717 calls were handled, of which 2,633 were reports of possible situations of child abuse.
