Boxing: Anthony Joshua, 19 pounds heavier than Oleksandr Usyk on the eve of their fight Anthony Joshua, 19 pounds heavier than Oleksandr Usyk on the eve of their fight
LONDON – Oleksandr Usyk weighed 19 pounds less than rival Anthony Joshua on the eve of their fight on Saturday.
Usyk, the suitor from Ukraine, swung the scale to 221 pounds at the weigh-in in London on Friday. The former light heavyweight is heavier than his first two fights after joining the heavyweight division in 2019.
Joshua, who will put his WBA, IBF and WBO titles on the line, posted a weight of 240 pounds – the same as his last fight against Kubrat Pulev in December.
"I don't watch my weight much," said Joshua, who seemed relaxed at the weigh-in while wearing headphones around his neck. " I am what I am. I don't understand why we make such a big deal out of weight. »
Usyk is also at a disadvantage in height (three inches) and reach (four inches) for the fight which will be held in front of more than 60,000 spectators at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.
