Comparison: Peel and Doupi, two extra-fine shells for iPhone 6 Plus |igeneration

The portfolio cases recently tested in these columns have the advantage of effectively protecting the iPhone 6 Plus. But a district question, it is not really a success: the tablettophone table, which is already not very discreet in the natural, turns into a xxl brick decked out in such a shell. We offer you in this new comparison to test the exact opposite of portfolios.

In this case, these are two extra-fine and extremely light polycarbonate shells that cover the back and slices of the iPhone 6 Plus.La Pel, offered at $ 25, to which will be necessary to add $ 11 port fees ($ 5 for the United States), $ 36 or thirty euros. It is a little expensive, especially next to the other model marketed by Doupi, which costs ten euros on Amazon.

Note however that manufacturers are used to promotions: at a time when these lines are written, the peel is offered at less than $ 30 shipping costs included (24 €), and the Depi model costs less than 7 euros(with € 2.50 shipping costs). The price difference remains substantial, but it can be explained by the difference in quality between these two products.

C'est quoi ?

These two shells share the same vocation: to protect at least the iPhone 6 Plus without distorting its design or weighing it down.If this type of protection has existed for a long time, it adapts perfectly to the (very) large Apple smartphone on which we can hardly imagine adding a layer, at the risk of making it an intransportable monster.

With ultra-fine profiles (the thickness of the peel is only 0.35 mm) and their featherweight, these polyurethane shells (plastic, what) combine the advantages as we will see.If we have chosen models with a transparent black dress, there are several other colors: yellow and white at Peel, all the colors of the rainbow at Doupi. We will appreciate the complete absence of logo or any marks on the back of each of the hulls, which thus remain completely virgins of any inscription, leaving room only in Apple design.

The two models obviously include spaces to facilitate the handling of the pimples, our preference in terms of finish going towards the peel whose openings correspond better to the locations of the buttons. The spaces of the Doupi are larger and appear smaller, but we will retain the small plastic net between the two volume buttons: certainly, it does not bring much and its finesse betrays a certain fragility, but that demonstrates at leastA certain sense of care despite the Rikiki price of the hull.

Comment ça protège ?

Suffice to say right away: these two shells are not themed strong when it comes to effectively protecting the iPhone.A slightly violent shock on the cold bitumen cannot be completely absorbed by polyurethane, too fine. And obviously, we will benefit from placing a protective film on the front surface of the smartphone, because these shells stop right where the screen begins. In the same vein, neither of the two products will create space between a flat surface and the screen, left completely bare. These shells would have gained to integrate a slight stop in order to prevent the screen from being exposed when you place the smartphone upside down.

Impossible to ask the moon to these hulls which are clearly not intended for the most extreme situations ... On the other hand, they will take the scratches and the lightest blows instead of the smartphone hull, which is their primary function.

The finesse of these accessories being what it is, the camera on the back of the iPhone 6 Plus will continue to exceed very slightly, but almost imperceptibly.Place the smartphone on a flat surface, and it will be finished with the slight rocking effect that we observe without shell.Last common point between the two accessories: they do not protect the lower edge, thus leaving the loud gate, the Lightning port and the Jack output.

C'est pratique ?

Despite the striking resemblance between the two products, their grip is significantly different. The surface of the peel is smooth when that of the Dubi model is more rough. In fact, with the latter, we have less the feeling that the smartphone will slip your fingers. It remains quite subjective, but it seemed to us that the Dubi hull was more "secure" than its competitor.

There is an area in which the cheapest model sins somewhat: the edges tend to hang the finger during movements starting on the edges of the screen. This is much less the case with the peel, whose edges fall perfectly at the intersection of the hull and the tactile slab. This is not a crippling detail for the Dubi, but that is probably what we measure Peel's experience.

Lequel acheter ?

If you are close to its money, it is difficult not to advise Doupi's hull: a little less well finished than that of Peel, this model is nonetheless proposed at an unbeatable price. In addition, we can appreciate polyurethane with a rough touch that offers better grip. With a difference of almost 20 euros compared to its competitor, the peel has no major assets to oppose Dubi, if not a higher finish (which is happy in view of the price).

More generally, you should not expect complete and total protection with these two products, which are especially there to avoid small shocks of daily life, and not large accident falls.
