A new method that makes the iPhone 12 more repairable

As explains 9TO5MAC, this new method will notably allow repairers to change the motherboard of the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini, but also their Sensors Face ID as well as their rear window.Changing the cameras of the two devices remains impossible and will always require the complete replacement of the defective unit. The screen, for its part, remains replaceable. This was the case from the start since the screen is the first part that must be dismantled if you want to access the components.

"If a client has an iPhone 12 mini whose rear window is cracked, for example, technicians will be able to replace the entire rear part of the device. The new case being fixed on the original screen and cameras, the customer's screen and rear cameras must be free from damage or functional failures so that the device can benefit from this method of repair at theidentical ”details Apple in its internal note.

Easy repairs… for a reduced carbon footprint

Exclusive to the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini, this new repair method should reduce the intervention time for certain customers.Instead of waiting for the reception of a new iPhone, the repairer may indeed proceed to the repair of the original device, which could thus be theoretically usable again after a few hours if he has partsreplacement in stock.

Replacing parts in place of a pure and simple iPhone change is also part of Apple's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. It will be interesting to see if the firm will extend this method to its other iPhone and in particular to the iPhone 12 pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max… which are little or prou built in the same way as the iPhone 12 and 12 mini.
