Is the iPhone 6 Plus the best product from Apple? | iGeneration
Apple has released a number of good products. They are not always all good, some with negative points or simply less good than others. In good products, in the Mac department, I will ask for the MacBook Pro Retina 15", which has definitely reconciled me with the notebook format to such an extent that it is more desirable to me today than a 27" iMac which , in my opinion, was the best computer from Apple. The iPad Air also had a little something extra, like the culmination of several years of good iPads (or not so good, like the third), with this almost total absence of defects.
This year, Apple launched the iPhone 6, in two versions. The original iPhone 6, with its 4.7" screen. An excellent smartphone, coupled with the new features of iOS 8, it practically meets all the expectations that have been placed in the iPhone since (and even before) the launch of its first model (see also: iPhone 6 test) This is the model I bought, after a long line in front of an Apple Store, accompanied by too many other impatient people. The size of the item is perfect, neither too big nor too small, however, jaded by months of leaks preceding the launch of the item, I hadn't felt anything new while using it. good iPhone, but it was still a "good iPhone", nothing less, but nothing more either.
On the other side, there is an iPhone 6 Plus, out of all proportion for an iPhone. He is tall, very tall. Almost untenable in hand for a short grip in the Apple Store, it quickly put me off. Its advantages, compared to its little (and yet big) brother, are very limited. A landscape rotation, a stabilized photo sensor and a battery worthy of the name (3000mAh). However happy, or rather satisfied with the iPhone 6, I still wanted to try the experience of the 6 Plus after a week accompanied by its little brother. Once the exchange is done, I go home. With this big box, way too big to house a phone. And yet. And yet.
The first days of use were quite laborious, the grip of the device being complicated, at least for it to be comfortable. My hands aren't particularly big or small. I wondered several times why I made this trade, and the thought of a reverse trade crossed my mind for a moment. But after this period of past adaptation, the notion of pleasure of use was really felt.
The Samsung Galaxy Notes intrigued me, the screen size was attractive enough, but the Samsung overlay always kept me away from those phones, so I just watched them from a distance. On the other hand, the iPhone still pleases me as much, certainly iOS is not perfect, and Android has been able to show itself as a very good competitor, but it is iOS that I use on a daily basis, out of pure subjectivity. Putting an iPhone in a big Android phone body, a body shaped by Apple, the operation was bound to please me. That's the impression I got when picking up the iPhone 6 Plus, a size that directly echoes those chunky Android phones, but Designed by Apple in California. With this magnificent glass that embraces the curve of the metal, the new iPhone really has a successful design. A pleasant design to use.
But let's come back to this notion of pleasure. What surprises me the most is that after two months of use, the iPhone 6 Plus has completely upset the hierarchy of my little computer world. I feel like it has become my main device. The use of the Mac has hardly changed, either in terms of functions or the time I spend on it, but I feel like I take it with me less systematically than before. But where the change is most visible is at the tablet level. My iPad Air has been dead for three weeks now, and I've never felt the need to use it for anything again. If he accompanied me on weekends, for the management of bank account, in the reading of long articles or even comics, here, nothing more. The iPhone 6 Plus has systematically taken its place. I experience the same pleasure using the iPhone 6 Plus as the iPad can provide. The iPhone 6 Plus brings together the best of the iPad, with a screen in which you don't feel cramped; and the iPhone, the Swiss army knife of our era.
In addition to that, the three small advantages of the large model are decisive in its proper functioning. Apps that switch to landscape format are more useful than you might think. The Mail application thus works in the same way as its counterpart on the iPad, the calendar is finally usable on the iPhone, and Safari is really pleasant to use. The iPhone 6's camera is already impressive, but the iPhone 6 Plus's is simply confusing. Only the eight million pixels show some signs of weakness if the photo needs to be cropped. But the quality of lights, blurs is unprecedented on an iPhone. And, dare I venture that far, on any phone. Properly used, the sensor of the iPhone 6 Plus can work miracles. As an example, the illustrations for these two articles (FiftyThree's Pencil stylus test for iPad and Discover the interior of the Apple Store in Lille) were taken with the same iPhone 6 Plus. The quality is good enough to forget that the photos were taken with a phone.
Last advantage of the 6 Plus over its little brother, autonomy. Without discussion possible, the iPhone 6 Plus finally has a correct autonomy of one day (for advanced users), something confirmed in our test (read: Test of the iPhone 6 Plus). Afternoon charging is just a thing of the past, and the iPhone stands up to endless days. This is a point that I particularly envied Android devices. Some of them, like the LG G3 or the Samsung Galaxy S5, are equipped with batteries capable of holding a real day and that's what the iPhone has done. With previous models, autonomy was such a problem that it limited the use of the iPhone. Who has never thought: "I'm going to put my phone in airplane mode now, otherwise it will be discharged when I need it"? We therefore find ourselves more limited because of its autonomy, free field!
In the radius of the advantages, we can also find the screen, which now displays this 401ppi resolution, which, in use, does not really make itself felt. The only point in favor of the 6 Plus compared to the 6 is its definition capable of displaying videos in 1080p natively. Another point that gave a definite advantage to Android devices, and particularly to the Nexus 5 with its magnificent 5" screen which displays these famous videos in 1080p. Unfortunately, the iPhone 6 Plus displays less good contrast than the iPhone 6 , nothing alarming of course, but we lose the perfect blacks of the iPhone 6. One of the few advantages of the small model against the large one.
All these small advantages, combined with the novelties of iOS 8 (with the arrival of third-party keyboards, for example, and the excellent SwiftKey), all this combined with the years of maturation of the iPhone, make me think that the iPhone 6 Plus is one of the best products that Apple has ever signed. The impression that the iPhone 6 Plus leaves is that it has finally arrived at this point where there are no longer any barriers to use. The absence of this or that feature, slowdowns here and there. As a reminder, we had to wait for the fourth generation of the iPhone to be able to put a wallpaper on the home screen. The iPhone 6 Plus is undoubtedly to be placed in the category of excellent Apple products where, personally, I will give it first place.
