MagSafe charging has advantages: it is faster than Qi charging and it is easier to position the iPhone on the charger thanks to the magnets. But it also has some flaws: the magnetic link between the charger and the smartphone is so powerful that you can't remove the iPhone without putting both hands in it (read our grip). And then the charger can mark the cases, as admits in very fine print this new sheet of assistance from Apple!

The manufacturer is talking about leather cases on which could appear a circular imprint on the back, which corresponds to the MagSafe magnetic circle present in the iPhone and in the charger. According to MacRumors, this mark can also be noticed on silicone cases, and this very quickly in view of the shell already marked with a reader.

The support sheet also warns that it is absolutely necessary to avoid placing a bank card, a security badge, a passport, a key fob between the iPhone and the MagSafe charger as this could damage the magnetic strips or the RFID chips present in these objects. If the case carries any of these objects, Apple recommends removing them before recharging the smartphone.

The MagSafe charger or iPhone may heat up slightly while charging. If the smartphone battery heats up too much, iOS can limit charging to 80% of the battery; when the temperature drops, the iPhone will then resume charging. Apple suggests placing the charger and iPhone in a cooler location to avoid this problem.

Good to know also: if it is wired, the iPhone will charge via its Lightning port even placed on the MagSafe charger. Apple also specifies that if it is better to connect the MagSafe charger to a 20W adapter (or more), the accessory requires at least a 12W adapter. But in this case, the iPhone will charge less quickly (the maximum being 15W).
