Netflix plans to charge families up to €20 [Update] | iGeneration
The Italian site TuttoAndroid has come across a new price list at Netflix. Instead of three prices like today, it is made up of four levels, with an additional level at €17 per month, in addition to the three others that we have today, from €8 to €14 per month. The main difference does not come from the accessible content, but from the number of users who can use the service at the same time.
On this new grid, the €8 package remains limited to standard quality (no HD) and to a single user. On the other hand, the standard plan at €10.99 per month still offers access to high definition, but it is also limited to one user at a time with this version. To use it as a couple like today, you would have to upgrade to the higher package, billed at €14 and which also offers access to 4K.
This package currently allows four people to use Netflix, but that would no longer be possible with this grid. This is where the new price comes in, since the €17 offer is identical to the current €14 subscription, with the possibility of having four users at the same time.
In response to this discovery, Netflix told Cnet that it was a test conducted with some of the users and which is not necessarily intended to be generalized. This is not the first time that Netflix has increased its prices, the last time was in the fall, with one to two euros more per month depending on the formula.
[Update 4/07/2018 11:56]: Netflix is indeed increasing the tests. Our colleagues from 01 Net have thus discovered a tariff grid which goes up to 20 € per month, against 17 € for the Italian grid. The streaming giant is obviously testing the maximum threshold accepted by new subscribers, before deciding on a fixed grid for everyone.
On this alternative grid, we also note that the difference no longer affects the number of screens available at the same time (we remain at 4 for the €14 package), but on the HDR mode which offers better results, provided to have a compatible TV.
