Fatigue, irritability, mood, memory or concentration disorders, all symptoms that are largely due to insomnia. 1 in 5 French people suffer from it, according to the National Institute of Sleep and Vigilance, which organizes open houses, conferences, events, workshops and meetings on March 19, on the occasion of the 21st Sleep Day®. This disorder could even be severe in 9% of cases. This results in difficulty falling asleep, multiple awakenings during the night or waking up too early in the morning, which is not without consequences on the quality of the day. The problem is that, very often, we don't know anything about our sleep, we wake up tired without knowing why. In order to be able to measure the quality of one's nights, and in some cases even to correct any problems, experts from the high-tech sector have developed solutions. This is the case, among others, of Emma Sleep Company, Bose, Withings and Terraillon.
Emma Sleep Company: Motion, the smart mattress
The basis of any restful sleep, the bedding - and in particular the mattress - is obviously to be taken into consideration. Far from the classic approaches of the sector, the German firm Emma Sleep Company has decided to make it smart by creating Emma Motion.
Its mattress, driven by artificial intelligence, is equipped with technologies developed by the brand.
Thus, the Infinite AI Sensor constantly detects, throughout the night, the sleeping position of its user or even the Silent Move IQ, a system guaranteeing the automatic adaptation of the firmness of the mattress in absolute silence. Every movement is continuously analyzed: the passive mattress becomes active and adapts to the conditions of your night, changing properties whether you sleep on your back, stomach or side.
To achieve this performance, Motion is equipped with 360 motion sensors that detect the slightest pressure analyzed in real time by a network of several terabytes of data. Order is then given to two foam-based elements, the “Motion Fields”, which will compress or decompress to best adjust the mattress.
Emma Motion also contains another in-house technology: the Diamond Degree. This device packs into the foam forming the top layer, millions of heat-conducting graphite particles that will help regulate temperature by dissipating excess body heat.
This mille-feuille of diapers makes it a model with a height of 34 cm and a weight of 45 kg. And since there is no intelligent product without its application, the Emma App will allow you to personalize it according to your needs. This product, guaranteed for 10 years, could well change the quality of our nights.

Withings: Sleep Analyzer
Now your bed might be just fine, so why change it. Only, as he is not said to be intelligent, he will be unable to analyze your nights and identify any nocturnal problem. However, making your mattress smart is quite possible thanks to Sleep Analyzer from Withings. This device claims to be a home sleep lab and the number one in sleep apnea detection.
The object comes in the form of a small fabric tablecloth to slip under the mattress. Inside, sensors will record your heart rate, your breathing and your movements during your sleep to give you in the morning, and via your smartphone, an analysis of your night.
The slightest snoring or breathing problem will be tracked, dissected and your sleep cycles displayed with, next to it, a score showing the quality of your night.
As a guarantee of reliability, the French company has developed Sleep Analyzer in collaboration with sleep doctors at Béclère Hospital in Paris. The data obtained by the Withings device were meticulously compared to those obtained by polysomnography (PSG), the gold standard sleep diagnostic device, in order to best adjust the results obtained.
Here's how to make a mattress a little more talkative at a lower cost.

Bose: Sleepbuds II, original headphones
Have you noticed your propensity to fall asleep on a train, on a plane, or even to the hum of an air conditioner? This sound psalmody that surrounds you in these particular conditions seems to erase additional noises such as conversations or even obsessive thoughts. Our brain decodes them less well and seems to erase them. This is the principle taken up by the American Bose, expert in the audio sector, with its Sleepbuds II (second generation).
The purpose of these digital earplugs is to mask outside noise through both passive noise reduction and the delivery of soothing sounds that promote relaxation. We immediately notice that these in-ear headphones are much smaller than conventional headphones. They are indeed designed so as not to disturb the wearer during his sleep. In addition, they have hooked tips to ensure better stability in the ear and thus not to lose them during the night. Here however, there is no active noise reduction, it will be passive but effective.
The Sleepbuds II are controlled via an application which allows the sound tracks to be loaded inside the headphones themselves. These are about fifty in number divided into three categories: so-called soothing sounds, which are similar to meditation music; the sounds of nature reproducing the effects of rain, wind, there is even the gentle lullaby of a clothes dryer; and finally sounds intended for sound masking based on white noise embellished with wind for example or light rustling.
The result is quite effective, even in the end for working while remaining focused in your bubble at home or in an open space. Too bad, however, that we can not also use them to simply listen to music. Intended to be operational all night long, they also have a configurable alarm function for a gentle wake-up call. Ready to travel, Sleepbuds II come in a charging case for four nights of restful sleep.

Terraillon: Homni
Finally, there is no night, however comfortable, that does not begin with falling asleep and ending with waking up. Here too their quality is important. It is for this reason that Terraillon, a French company specializing in bathroom scales, has embarked on the study of nights. If it too, through sleep sensors like Dot or Reston, is able to analyze the phases of rest, it offers, through Homni, to plunge quickly into sleep and a gentle awakening.
This small design object with touch controls is a smart bedside lamp that initially measures 4 parameters of your room: temperature, humidity, sound level and brightness. But Homni also offers light programs, developed with the European Sleep Centre, aimed at falling asleep more easily and waking up gently. Everything is programmable from the Wellness Coach Sleep app. This makes it possible to follow the evolution of sleep every day but also to configure the lighting. So in the evening, to fall asleep, a special program will diffuse a light gradually turning red, a color that promotes the secretion of melatonin. Coupled with a session of cardiac coherence with breathing exercises linked to slow light pulses, falling asleep will be favored. On the contrary, in the morning, a blue light will promote a natural awakening. These programs are embellished with appropriate soundscapes masking any external noise pollution. Others will invite meditation or relaxation. The options are many and varied.
It should be noted that Homni will also act as a Bluetooth speaker and that the Dot sleep sensor, included in the box, will give a wealth of information on the quality of the night.
