[Notice] Steelseries Arctis 1 Wireless: the gaming helmet to take everywhere
Audio in video games can play an important role, as can be the case on an FPS (Call of Duty) or a TPS (Fortnite).Holding these enemies move or being able to communicate with your team can make a difference! But a good helmet is often expensive, intended for a particular platform, or we end up with a not terrible model that we leave in the drawer.
We are, for the most part, confined to the house at the moment and let's be honest, we have more often the controller or the mouse by hand, that our computer of work (go, it remains between us). After talking about the Sonos speakers (the one SL test here, that of the Beam there) and the Beats solo (our article here), let's talk about Steelseries Arctis 1 Wireless, a helmet that hasNothing incredible at first glance, but which is convincing!
Let's quickly pass on the design, which is in the sobriety. The whole is made of black plastic, the logo appears on each atrium and the hoop is reinforced by a steel rod for more solidity. It's simple and effective, no extravagance. At the level of the hoop, there is a slight padding in imitation leather.
For earpieces, steelseries put on fabric in the pads in a circum-aural design (the pads surround the ears), which has the advantage of less stifling at the ears. With 190 g on the scale, the helmet is really comfortable.I do not feel heating in the ears, nor pressure on the top of the skull, even after several hours of use.
The Arctis 1 Wireless is rather well equipped, and still happy given the € 120 requested for purchase. On the right atrium, only the on/off button and a small LED.On the left, a button allows you to activate/deactivate the microphone and another allows you to adjust the volume. There is also a jack 3.5 mm, although we can benefit from a wireless connection thanks to the USB-C Dongle.
And finally a micro-USB socket and a last to connect the microphone that is, you will understand, and we appreciate, removable! The latter is effective, and it is rather welcome, especially on the move, to be able to connect it/disconnect according to his desire.
The buttons are well placed and easily recognizable, practical for a game!
In the box, next to a jack 3 cable.5 mm and a USB-A cable to USB-C, we find the dongle mentioned above which will allow, once connected to your PS4, Xbox, Switch, PC, or even Android and even iPad (with USB-C), connected your wireless helmet. It’s really a big plus of this helmet, its versatility. With or wireless, and regardless of the platform used.
For example, I have a switch and an iPad pro.I can therefore connect the Dongle to USB-C to one or the other of the devices and not disturb my neighbors, whether at home (Madame enjoi) or on travel.
PUBG lover, the helmet offers a real advantage at the sound level to identify enemies, compared to the speakers of the iPad, for example. The observation is the same on other platforms on COD, Battlefield and others.Other plus: autonomy.Steelseries announces 8 pm, there were about fifteen hours, which is sufficient for use!
We would have liked Steelseries to pushed attention to detail a little further. Two things are missing, in my opinion: a USB-C socket for recharging, instead of the micro-USB, and hinges to fold the helmet and reduce its size when it is transported. The ARCTIS 1 Wireless's earpieces are 90º, but it is not enough.Let us relativize by saying that, anyway, we are not going to walk with every day (we cannot go out anyway ...).
For 120 €, we would have liked to have a transport cover (the one sold by Steelseries is billed 35 €, it starts to do a lot).Note that at a time when we write these lines, the helmet is promoting on their site at € 95.
There is also a similar model, if you agree to ignore wireless connection. The Arctis 1, no Wireless suddenly, is offered at just under 60 € and offers itself as a more affordable alternative.
