Shadow is considering a paid option to have the performance of an RTX 3070 | MacGeneration
Shadow, the PC rental company in the cloud has unveiled some information on its new high-end offer planned for the current 2022. This should take the form of a paid "Performance" option for the basic formula allowing to get a power boost. If the technical details have not been revealed, we know that the RAM will be better quality DDR4. On the graphics card side, the team is aiming for the performance of a GeForce RTX 3070, but cannot promise anything for the moment.
The problem for the moment is mainly to get your hands on equipment. If the boss of Shadow explains that he ordered "everything he could", it is far from enough: the order book remains open. While waiting to know which graphics cards will officially be in the new formula, the company does not dare to comment on a price range. Eric Sele, however, hopes to be able to offer it by this summer.
Updating a fleet as massive as Shadow's is difficult under current conditions. The group originally planned to upgrade its setups as technology advanced to keep the rented computers always up to date, but the challenge was never met. As it stands, the GTX 1080s currently displayed for €29.99 per month are holding up, but for how much longer?
The solution of a paid option should make this transition smooth: it would first be reserved for demanding gamers before becoming free after a certain time for standard users. A new Performance option would then take over, while the “old” cards could be relegated to formulas less focused on graphic quality. In September, the team mentioned the creation of "verticals" dedicated to companies or the general public: they could be satisfied with the power of a 1080.
