TCL TAB 10s – Test of an Android tablet for family use
Today we are going to take a look at the TAB 10s touchscreen tablet from TCL. The Chinese manufacturer, best known for its TV screens, has already set foot in the smartphone sector with interesting models at very competitive prices. The same logic seems to apply for this TCL TAB 10s offered around 200 €. Let's see what she has to offer...
Design and interface of the TCL TAB 10s
The TCL TAB 10s tablet makes a good first impression. Despite its plastic chassis, the build quality is there. The design remains quite minimalist, but pleasant. The contours are neat, the shell is very thin and with only 488 g on the scale it remains quite light.
In terms of the user interface, no frills either, we are here on a stock version of Android 10. We are nevertheless surprised that at a time when Android 12 is about to be deployed, the TCL TAB 10 s does not have the latest version. The manufacturer has not confirmed whether the tablet may receive an update in the future.
The tablet comes with a fairly basic stylus, with no buttons or other fancy features, but it does the job very well and provides good precision. The only downside is that the shelf does not have a place to store the accessory when you are not using it.

TCL TAB 10s screen
As for the design and the interface, the TCL TAB 10s tablet remains quite basic in terms of the display. It has a 10-inch panel to display a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It offers good viewing angles and decent brightness for a device that's primarily intended for home use. We can regret that it does not offer a high refresh rate or thin edges. But overall the display remains nice and detailed with good colors.
The first commissioning is very easy.
Performance and Connectivity
The TCL TAB 10s is equipped with a Mediatek MT8768 chip. This entry-level processor in the tablet sector has 8 cores. In parallel, there is 3 GB of RAM and internal storage of 32 GB. The memory is expandable thanks to a microSD slot.
The tablet offers very decent processing speeds. The execution of tasks is rather fast and we do not really feel the need for more power on common applications. The navigation is fluid and the response time quite short. In terms of graphics performance, it is a bit limited to run resource-intensive games at high settings, but gaming is not really its strong point. Nevertheless, it will do the job very well on light titles.
On the connectivity side, it supports Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.0 technology. The USB Type-C port for charging also doubles as an audio output for a compatible headset or sound device.

Camera and sound
The TCL TAB 10s packs a fairly basic camera setup that includes an 8 MP rear camera equipped with a flash and a 5 MP front camera. Unsurprisingly, the software experience is not very developed and the rendering quality is not spectacular. For video calls, this remains decent in well-lit environments.
On the sound side, there is a stereo system with two efficient speakers for very correct sound reproduction whether in video conferencing or for watching multimedia content.

Autonomy
The great strength of the TCL TAB 10s is its comfortable autonomy. It has an integrated 8,000 mAh battery which, combined with good energy management of the processor and the system, allows you to enjoy a good day without charging for basic use. If you decide to do a video streaming or video call marathon, the battery can easily last between 7 and 8 hours for continuous use. On the other hand, there is no fast charge, so you will have to be a little patient to perform a full charge.

Verdict on the TCL TAB 10s
In short, the TCL TAB 10s is an entry-level Android touchscreen tablet that offers good value for money and is perfect for web and multimedia use with the family. It gives you a nice display, very comfortable battery life and a decent pair of speakers. On the other hand, it will lack a little power if you want to run demanding games.
My daughter has been using it for a few weeks and she loves it! It's much better than a tablet/smartphone at a discount from VTech and you can limit its use via the applications provided by TCL or simply use Google's Family Link which I may well tell you about in a dedicated article.
