Logitech G335 headset review: lightweight

After a convincing G733, we find Logitech for a test of its little brother: the G335, which uses the same construction, but this time uses a wired jack connection. Will it be as convincing?

The Logitech G335 gaming headset, available at the recommended price of 69.99 euros, offers an ultra-light construction that we appreciated on the G733 tested recently. It benefits here from a 3.5 mm jack connection which makes it compatible with consoles, PC and any other device equipped with this connection.

It retains the 40 mm transducers of its big brother and will unfortunately be deprived of certain features due to its analog connection. Offered at an attractive price, it is in direct competition with the Turtle Beach Recon 500 that we recently presented to you.

Lightness above all

The G335 therefore resumes the construction of the G733 identically. It revolves around a single piece of reinforced plastic that acts as a headband and support for the ear cups. Resolutely modern in its design, this arch splits in two above the head.

However, it is not this plastic piece that rests on the user's skull. Indeed, the helmet is supplied with an elastic fabric headband which offers a little latitude in terms of adjustment thanks to the two possible positions on the headband. We then find a comfort similar to the helmets of the Arctis range of SteelSeries.

The support for the ear cups, which is therefore installed directly at the ends of the headband, offers a slight movement over 360° allowing a good installation around the ears. There is also a sliding height adjustment, similar to that which we are used to finding on helmets with more classic architecture.

Thanks to its light weight of only 240 grams and its intelligent construction, the G335 is logically very comfortable. Note that, like the G733, it is a bit tight for big heads during the first days of use. The set relaxes a little with use and is a little more comfortable afterwards.

Available in 3 colors, we are testing the black model here, built entirely in slightly rough black plastic. A discreet strapping with a shiny finish is present on each of the earpieces and slightly tones down the whole, which is still very playful.

The foam that surrounds the ear cups is properly padded and covered with fabric. This characteristic favors the breathability of the whole, but will logically have consequences on the passive insulation of the helmet, as we will see later.

With its simple jack connection, the G335 is logically limited in terms of its functionality. It does not take advantage of the Logitech G Hub driver and ultimately only benefits from a well-placed and easy-to-use volume control wheel. The latter does not control the volume of the system, only that of the headphones.

Gamer headset requires, the newcomer from Logitech has a microphone (not removable). This pivots on its axis and can thus be folded down in line with the arch. Interesting point: folding it automatically cuts off sound pick-up, which replaces the usual dedicated button. The pole is unfortunately a little short and it clearly lacks rigidity.

The non-removable cable offers an appreciable length of approximately 1.80 meters which will suit most uses. We regret, however, that Logitech did not see fit to equip the headphones with a braided cable which would have been more durable. Unfortunately, at this price, you can't have it all.

Unsurprisingly, the G335 is therefore a success in terms of ergonomics and comfort. Its intelligent construction and light weight make it particularly pleasant to use on a daily basis. Nevertheless, its entirely plastic construction gives it a very toy appearance which may displease some people.

A sound rendering behind

Logitech seems to have kept the same 40mm transducers on this new model. Nevertheless, the switch to an analog wired connection logically has an impact on the sound reproduction of the headphones, both at the output and at the pickup via its integrated microphone.

The G335 is unfortunately not a very balanced headset. The low frequencies are present, but ultimately quite set back and it is logically not possible to correct the situation with the brand's software.

The high frequencies are a little too aggressive and sometimes make listening unpleasant on certain titles. More generally, the headset lacks definition and musicality and is not up to par as soon as the pieces and soundscapes are too complex.

Shakka's Say Nada track clearly emphasizes all the flaws of the headphones with recessed bass, far too aggressive highs and a tight soundstage that breaks the immersion on the track's outro.

If it is not recommended for titles where the atmosphere and immersion are essential, in particular because of the very relative width of its soundstage, the G335 will be very suitable for FPS players who will appreciate the relative presence of explosions and shootings. The stereophony is also quite correct and will allow a rather effective localization of the origin of the sounds.

The headset may not be helped by its poor passive isolation. Indeed, the G335 fails to block sounds from the outside and will not make you forget your mechanical keyboard. Logically, this is not a model to recommend if you plan to use it in a noisy environment or with other people around you.

With regard to the integrated microphone, the capture of the voice turns out to be of very good quality if we omit the low output volume (as often). The headset will therefore logically be well suited for chatting with your playmates. However, we have noticed a slight and permanent parasitic hiss that you can hear in the sound example present just below.
